Celebration of the National Day of Girls and Women in Sport scheduled

CINCINNATI – The Department of Athletics at the University of Cincinnati will host its seventh annual National Day of Girls and Women in Sport (NGWSD) on Saturday, January 29th.

NGWSD is held annually across the country on February 2 to commemorate the achievements of girls and women in athletics. The initiative also aims to promote the continued expansion of opportunities for girls and women to play sports and live physically active lives.

Cincinnati Athletics will host an NGWSD celebration event for current Bearcats student-athletes along with the women’s home basketball game against Tulsa at 2 p.m. The event will begin at noon in the Arena classrooms behind the Fifth Third Arena and will consist of a roundtable and group sessions. and a dinar.

When the event ends around 2pm, participants will head out to the arena to cheer on the Bearcats. Tickets for the game are free for current student-athletes and are recommended to all fans in black. Celebrations within the game include junior baseman Akira Levy singing the national anthem and a basketball presentation to Dr. Jane Sojko and former student-athlete Hannah Markel for her contributions to women in the sport.

The NGWSD celebration will continue on Bearcats social media on Wednesday, February 2, when a female representative from each team will share her thoughts on the positive impact of sport for women.
